Jay began his career as a musician and songwriter and studied Film Scoring and Guitar at Boston’s prestiges’ Berklee College of Music in the late 1980’s. In 1990 Jay graduated top of his class with a specialized degree in music production and engineering from Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in winter Park FL.
After graduating in 1990, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as Recording Engineer and Music Producer. Jay’s time in LA allowed him to work in world class recording studios on many different types of projects, post production audio and sound design for film and television including Warner Brothers animated series Animaniacs, Tiny Toons and Batman, and record projects for Major Artists with Platinum Producers and Engineers including ” LA Gunns ” ” Queen Latifah ” and “ The Rippingtons “ Grammy nominated record “Curves Ahead’. The LA experience really helped to develop his talents as an accomplished sound designer, engineer and producer and to provide an impressive credit list to his resume.
After returning to the Central Florida area in the early 1990’s, Jay was employed as a sound effects designer at Soundelux where he continued to build credits on feature films, television, theme park ( Universal Studios , Six Flags , Walt Disney World and more ) and video game audio projects. In 1993 Jay met aspiring songwriter Rob Thomas {Matchbox20) and the two developed a professional relationship which resulted in the co-writing of 26 songs and the formation of the band “Tabitha’s Secret” the first incarnation of what would later become Matchbox20. Jay’s collaboration with Rob spawned the Billboard # 1 song “3am” which spent ten weeks at # 1 on the billboard adult top 40 charts, sold over 15,000,000 copies and garnered Jay ASCAP POP music awards for most performed song of 1999 and 2000. Jays songwriting and production work have been credited on over 25,000,000 records sold worldwide including such artists as CREED, MATCHBOX20, Sevendust, Rob Thomas, and Tabitha’s Secret to name a few. In 2003 Jay also won a WEBBY AWARD for his audio production work on the space sounds.com website.
Currently Jay is President of his own company formed in 1999 / J. Stanley Productions Inc. A state of the art digital audio production center outside of Orlando specializing in high definition audio, music production, audio for film and television , sound design for theme park attractions, video game audio, ADR, Foley, 5.1 surround sound mixing and encoding, voice talent casting, audio for the world wide web, forensic audio and audio restoration.
